Healthy Banana Porridge

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 2 cups milk (dairy or plant-based)
  • 1 ripe banana, mashed
  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
  • Toppings (optional): sliced bananas, chopped nuts, honey, cinnamon, etc.


  • In a saucepan, combine the rolled oats and milk. Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle boil.
  • Reduce the heat to low and let the oats simmer for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
  • Add the mashed banana to the saucepan and stir it into the oats. Continue cooking for 2-3 minutes until the oats are tender, and the porridge has thickened to your desired consistency.
  • If desired, add honey or maple syrup to sweeten the porridge. You can also add cinnamon for extra flavour. Stir well to incorporate the sweetener and spices.
  • Remove the saucepan from the heat. Allow the porridge to cool slightly before serving.
  • Serve the banana porridge in bowls and add your favourite toppings, such as sliced bananas, chopped nuts, a drizzle of honey, or a sprinkle of cinnamon.
