Summer is finally here. What are you going to do before those sun-soaked days pass? For some, taking a beach trip, finishing a novel, or falling in love are on their list of things they are still waiting to do. Nevertheless, if you live in the GTA, there are many other exciting things you could accomplish.
Whether you are seeking thrilling, adventurous escapades or a more relaxed experience, we put together a list of exciting things to do this season for every age.
Explore the CNE
Get ready to soak up the fun at the Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) as another round of fun-packed events takes place. From August 15 to September 1st, 2025, the CNE will offer a variety of entertainment experiences, including the Canadian International Air Show, Outdoor Marketplace, and the CNE farm, featuring more than 100 animals. There will also be concerts, extreme sports, and exhibits. Advance tickets and ride-all-day passes are available starting at $22.
Check out the Toronto Caribbean Carnival Parade
Nothing beats a cheerful crowd; on August 2, you can expect to see hordes gathering for the 59th annual Toronto Caribbean Parade. The celebration runs from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Expect to see brilliantly coloured feathery costumes, hear Caribbean music, and sample delicious food. The parade takes place at Lake Shore Boulevard West, and admission is free. Fees apply if you catch the parade from the beginning of the Exhibition Place grounds.
Go Wild at the Toronto Zoo
This summer, the Toronto Zoo is introducing a new interactive adventure, a Virtual Reality (VR) theatre. The fully immersive experience allows you to view animals in their natural habitats from various locations around the world. The 360-degree VR experience combined with motion platform seating provides a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness the behaviour of these incredible animals up close and personal.
Smell the roses at the Royal Botanical Gardens
With loads of activities and events to satisfy your green thumb, the Royal Botanical Gardens will open from May 18 to September 1st. This summer is truly special as the garden will host workshops for all ages and special events like arts and music and bloom festivals. Take in your surroundings as you enjoy a quiet, lazy afternoon walk across the 27 km stretch of nature trails or enjoy the Shakespeare in the Garden event by the Driftwood Theatre.
Feel Electrified at a Music Festival
Every summer, the city hosts several music festivals to the delight of the young and old alike. Considered one of Toronto’s largest summer festivals, the Beaches Jazz Festival stretches across the entire month of July. Filled with live jazz concerts, food trucks, vendors, and a beer garden, the festival brings community members together to connect with others and share experiences. The festival includes special events like Salsa on the Beach and a StreetFest event with food, music, and a market.
Get Animated at the Fan Expo Canada
The Fan Expo Canada is typically a four-day event held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. This year, the action-packed event will take place from August 21 to August 24, 2025. Once there, you can meet actors, artists, and writers from your favorite movies, TV shows, and comics. Explore the vendor floor, where you can browse and purchase collectibles from comics, play video games, or participate in the Cosplay Hideaway.
Watch a Movie at the Toronto Outdoor Picture Show
The Toronto Outdoor Picture Show (TOPS) takes you on an enchanting journey to watch romantic movies like Romeo and Juliet, opening on June 12-17 at Fort York. Other park locations like Christie Pits and Corktown Common will showcase exciting movies starting on July 6 at Christie Pits Park and July 3 at Corktown Common. Bring your blankets, chairs, and picnic baskets, or purchase food and drinks from the onsite vendors and get ready to enjoy an exciting night out. All events are free to the public, and no tickets or advanced booking registration is required to attend.
As summer begins in the city and the trees bloom, there are many opportunities to make the most of it. So, what are you waiting for? Put these events on your bucket list and get ready to have fun!
