This recipe comes straight from the Middle East, inspired by the viral “Can’t Get Knafeh of It” Chocolate Bar created by Fix Dessert Chocolatier in Dubai, UAE. Adding a handful of fresh strawberries to the world-famous mix of chocolate, pistachio cream, and kataifi phyllo dough has created a layered dessert, perfect for those with a sweet tooth. Here’s how to make it at home:
Ingredients:
1 ½ cups of kataifi shredded phyllo dough
2 tbsp of butter
⅓ cup of pistachio cream (not butter)
1 bar of Belgian milk chocolate (or your favourite type of chocolate)
7 quartered strawberries
chopped toasted pistachios for garnish
Instructions:
Chop previously thawed phyllo dough by cutting it into evenly sized pieces, approximately 1.5 cm in length.
Melt butter in a frying pan over medium heat and add the phyllo dough.
Cook for approximately 5-10 minutes until lightly golden and crispy, mixing constantly.
Cool the dough on a baking sheet at room temperature.
Melt pistachio cream in a microwave for approximately 10-15 seconds.
Mix the kataifi with pistachio cream.
Melt chocolate using a double boiler: place a heatproof bowl over a pot of simmering water, ensuring the bowl doesn’t touch the water. Add chopped chocolate to the bowl and stir gently as it melts.
In a cup, start layering your dessert: begin with strawberries, add 2-3 tablespoons of pistachio dough, and drizzle melted chocolate on top. Repeat until your cup is full.
Garnish with chopped toasted pistachios.
Enjoy!
