9 Spring Renovation Ideas for your Home

Spring is the perfect time to spruce up your home. Once you’re done with your cleaning, it can be really easy to see where your house may be in need of some upgrades. Of course, the word renovation can be quite daunting, but it doesn’t have to be. How much money and time you commit is completely up to you, and you may even find that your home is in bigger need of a refresh rather than a complete redo.

  1. Paint

Paint is both a quick and cost-efficient way to give your home a brighter and refreshed look. Typically, in the spring, when more light is coming into our homes, we may spot that the paint is becoming faded, chipped, stained, bubbled, peeling, damaged or just outdated. Generally, paint can last anywhere from 3-10 years, with it being recommended that you refresh your paint around the 5-year mark.

  1. Kitchen Remodelling

A lot of people tend to do kitchen renovations during the spring because this is when you entertain the most, and so you’re most aware of the shortcomings of your space. If you don’t want to do a full reno, you can do minor changes like bringing in new tiles, updated storage, new countertops, backsplash, you can paint your cupboard doors, and replace old hardware pieces like cupboard door handles with new ones.

  1. Flooring Upgrades

Spring is the perfect time to upgrade your floors if your current wooden floors need a refresh, or if you have seasonal allergies, and are becoming acutely aware of carpet’s ability to trap dust and pollen particles. Hardwood floors are easier to clean than carpet and come in many different styles and materials. If you already have hardwood, you can also take this time to consider if your floors need replacing, or just a quick sand or re-stain.

  1. Window Replacement/Reseal

This one is super important since caulking around the windows can shrink and crack during the winter. Without proper sealing, you can have air leakage, which means that your air conditioning is not staying inside the house, and neither is your heating. You may also want to replace your entire windows depending on their age. This can help stop your energy bills from increasing and improve the energy efficiency of your home.

  1. Landscaping

Once the snow has melted and the ground has thawed, you can take this time to clean your lawn of any debris that may have been hidden under the snow, as well as fertilizing your grass to promote growth. You can also plant some flowers, put out some planters, or other garden décor that you like to put out during the warmer months, and fix walkways.

  1. Revamp Deck

One incredibly high traffic area during the warmer months is the deck. If your deck needs replacing, now is the time to do it. If it just needs a bit of a refresh, you can also take the time to sand, repaint or re-stain the wood. You can also add new features if you feel your deck needs it, like new furniture, a roof or screen, and some new lighting. If you don’t already have a deck and would like one, this is the perfect opportunity to build one.

  1. Upgrade Textiles

Simply changing out your décor can really change the look of a space. Put away all of your heavy, dark décor for light and airy décor, in pastel tones and wood accents. You can swap out your window treatments, wall hangings, lampshades, throw pillows and blankets, duvet covers, chair cushions, towels, and rugs to really revamp your space.

  1. Update Light Fixtures

Swapping out outdated lighting for something more modern is another easy update you can do for your home. You can swap out both internal and external lighting to really freshen up your spaces and replace any lighting that may not be energy efficient.

  1. Custom Storage

Finally, nothing says spring cleaning quite like outfitting your home with custom storage solutions. Custom storage can still be stylish and will make rooms appear bigger and more organized, helping you maximize space while stepping up your cleaning and organization game.
